Information on Vaping
Supreme operates two of the UK’s largest vaping brands, and are able to provide private label vaping products to retailers throughout Europe. We’ve been involved in this growing market since the beginning, and now supply products to tens of thousands of outlets including high street retailers.
If you require any information about vaping products and the current market, you’ll find it right here.
An ecigarette is a battery-powered device that vaporises a solution of nicotine and other ingredients to create an aerosol which is then inhaled.
Comprised of a tank to hold an “eliquid,” a coil which is heated by an electrical current, and a battery to provide the current, ecigarettes come in many shapes and sizes.
While disposable ecigarettes are available on the market, Supreme Imports specialises in refillable, rechargeable vape pen and mod kit ecigarettes.
An eliquid is a flavoured solution used to generate the aerosol (vapour) which accompanies ecigarette usage.
The active ingredient of an eliquid is nicotine, which is added in set percentages for safety reasons. Eliquids also contain propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerine (VG) and flavourings. The ratio of PG to VG determines the mouthfeel and “throat hit” of the eliquid, while the flavourings determine the taste.
A number of vapers choose nicotine-free eliquids, which are also widely available on the market.
1927 – Joseph Robinson
While vaping is very much a modern phenomenon, the first patent for an ecigarette was filed in 1930 by American inventor Joseph Robinson. His “personal tobacco vaporizer” was never manufactured.
1963 – Herbert A Gilbert
A second patent for an ecigarette is filed, this time by Herbert A. Gilbert. As with Robinson, Gilbert’s “smokeless non-tobacco cigarette” is never manufactured.
1979 – Vaping
The word “vaping” enters the lexicon in 1979 with Phil Ray’s “nicotine evaporator.” As with earlier attempts, this product fails to find a market. Various companies and individuals will attempt to create a reliable nicotine inhaler during the 1980s and 1990s, but a combination of unproven technology and local drug laws prevent them from achieving any market penetration.
2003 – The First Successful Electronic Cigarette
In 2003, a Chinese pharmacist called Hon Lik creates the first modern ecigarette. Thanks to China’s manufacturing base and high rate of tobacco consumption, this ecigarette finds a market and enters widespread production.
2006 – Ecigarettes in Europe and America
Ecigarettes begin to reach Europe and America as of 2006, where they find a niche market amongst smokers and former smokers. During the following years, countries such as Turkey and Panama ban the sale of ecigarettes, while health organisations undertake the first large scale investigations.
2010 – 2014: Widespread Market Penetration
During the first half of the decade a wide range of vaping companies are formed around the world, manufacturing and distributing ecigarettes and eliquids.
2014 – Present: Legislation
Ecigarette legislation is released across a range of countries. Vaping products are restricted to the over 18s, packets are required to carry health warnings, and retailers are banned from advertising their ecigarette products as smoking cessation products.
A range of studies are released featuring contradictory claims about the effects of ecigarettes, with many authorities citing the need for future long-term studies.
Ecigarettes are widely sold and used around the world, as vaping becomes accepted by mainstream society. Consumer demand for reliable, high quality products and consumables remains high, while the public seeks reassurance on the potential health effects of eliquid inhalation.
A range of ecigarettes and vapes are currently available on the market, ranging from the disposable “Cigalike” vapes to the high powered Box Mod kits.
Supreme Imports currently offer Vape Pens and Box Mod kits.
Affordable, Disposable Ecigarette
Designed to mimic the look and hand-feel of a traditional cigarette, Cigalike electronic cigarettes are typically sold in blister packs for a single use. Containing an atomizer cartridge pre-loaded with liquid and a battery, these two part models generally feature a glowing LED tip to mimic a cigarette.
Entry-level Vaping Products
Vape Pens, as the name suggest, are roughly the size of a fountain pen and comprise of a rechargeable battery and a refillable liquid tank which also contains a replaceable coil. As these models can be filled with a variety of eliquids, they allow for a larger variety of flavours without repeated hardware purchases.
High-powered Vaping Technology
Comprising a high voltage rechargeable battery, a sub-ohm coil and a high capacity refillable tank, Box Mod vaping kits are widely used by hobbyists (who refer to themselves as “cloud chasers”) and heavy users. Box Mods use higher quantities of liquid with a high proportion of VG to create large clouds of vapour.
Vape Pens and Mod Kits are designed to be refilled with separately sold bottles of eliquids, such as those manufactured in Supreme Imports’ Manchester facility. All of the eliquids which we provide are manufactured to the highest standards, and bottled in accordance with the latest regulations.
Featuring a 50/50 mix of PG and VG along with nicotine and flavourings, 50/50 eliquids are the industry standard. Providing a robust mouthfeel with a noticeable “throat hit,” 50/50 eliquids are available in a wide range of flavours and at various nicotine strengths.
High VG “Mod” Eliquids
High VG eliquids are designed for use with Mod Kits. Their 70/30 balance of VG to PG requires a more powerful coil and battery, but produces larger amounts of thicker vapour. Because more vapour is inhaled, High VG Eliquids are only available in lower nicotine strengths.
Nicotine Free Eliquids
Both 50/50 and High VG eliquids are also available without nicotine. These liquids are available for sale in a number of markets where nicotine eliquids are prohibited – such as Sweden – and provide the same quality taste and experience without the presence of any nicotine.
The European vaping market is growing quickly, with approximately 7.5 million current users in the EU. Ecigarette usage is highest among tobacco smokers and ex-smokers, with these two groups accounting for nearly 100% of the market. The global ecigarette market is worth over $7 billion in annual sales, and this figure is set to rise as user numbers increase.
As vaping is an emerging market, local laws covering the importing, supply and sale of nicotine based eliquids vary from country to country.
If you are planning to sell any vaping products or eliquid, we highly advise checking which local laws and regulations apply.
In the United Kingdom, ecigarettes are unable to be marketed or sold as a smoking cessation product, and nor are manufacturers able to present any health guarantees or direct comparisons to tobacco products.
Despite the prevention of marketing materials presenting ecigarettes in this way, it is estimated that 40% of UK ecigarette users are ex-smokers.
All of the products sold by Supreme Imports are in line with the most recent TPD guidelines issued concerning the sale of nicotine and tobacco-derived products.
